HOW IT STARTED:

In her first public appearances, the environmental activist was 15 years old and began a school strike in front of the Riksdag, the Swedish parliament in Stockholm. She demanded that her country’s government reduce carbon emissions based on the provisions of the Paris Agreement.

HOW IT’S GOING:

The young Swedish activist’s campaign made a global effect, inspiring thousands of other young people to start their own strikes and most importantly, pressured the government to meet carbon emissions targets.
